Machines and facilities

You are looking for a logistics operator to transport your yacht, digger, crane or other equipment. In the first place check the experience of the haulier you entrust your cargo with. Apart from experience and impressive oversize project portfolio, it is absolutely crucial that they offer complex service provided without any subcontractors. Completion of such a project without middlemen will grant you better control over your shipment.

Before you entrust your precious merchandise to a haulier, please pay attention to a few more elements:

  • Suitable means of transport

Truck unit selection depends on a specific destination. Technical condition of vehicles must be apt to frequently very snowy and icy road conditions prevailing on Scandinavian routes. Winter tyres or proper hydraulic oil are a must-have but other details such as windshield washer fluid or fuel that does not freeze at 40 degrees below zero are essential, too.

  • Approvals and permits are fundamental

Oversize transport due to its non-standard application requires a number of approvals and permits to be granted. Moreover, transportation of oversize cargo to Scandinavia is understood as international transport, but norms applying to oversize shipments have not been unified. This means that apart from permits required by particular countries, specificity of each of the country needs to be taken into consideration - and there are considerable differences among them in many cases.

  • Individual bridge and ferry ramp expertise

Many logistics professionals provide expertise of individual bridges or ferry ramps. It facilitates considerably oversize transport planning and helps avoid nasty surprises en route. In this freight forwarders may exclude some routes and ferries already at an introductory planning stage.

Transport case

  1. Transport of crane

Oversize load

Oversize load

Wharf crane measuring ……

Route

Kristiansand, Norway -> shipyard in Romania, the Black Sea

Total distance covered: 3 000 km.

Fleet designated for completion of this assignment

Due to the height of the cargo it was necessary to use a specialized, low-bed 'tiefbett' trailer type. Its construction allows loading the cargo form just above the ground height thus decreasing total transport height, what is important considering such a long route.

  1. Transport of oil rig cabin module

Oversize load

Oil rig cabin module measuring….7.05 in width…

Route

….. ->Siarkoport in Gdańsk

Next the load was transported onto a vessel, and then to its final destination - oil rig platform in Norway.

Obstacles encountered on the way…

With such a wide load occupying two driving lanes it was necessary to be assisted by the police and pilots and to disassembly part of road infrastructure. The route ran through the centre of Gdansk and over the cable-stayed bridge.

You can watch some of the transport stages in a few minutes' video.

  1. Transport of yacht

Oversize load

Luxurious yacht 21.5m x 5.5m x 6.1m and 35t.

Route

Gdańsk yacht shipyard -> launching point at Nabrzeże Zbożowe

Fleet designated for completion of this assignment

  • three-axle VOLVO FH16 truck, 660 hp

  • 6-axle Nooteboom trailer equipped with extended platform and hydro pneumatic suspension and hydraulically steered wheels designed especially for our company. It can be extended up to 42 m, total weight 67t., small turning radius, optimal maneuverability.

Obstacles encountered on the way…

Technical parameters and high cargo value combined with narrow and difficult passages (internal gates and access roads of uneven surface) required extreme precision on the part of the driver, perfect radio communication with pilots and application of specialized equipment.

Pilot's remote control of the trailer twist beam axles facilitated precise maneuvers (centimeter clearance on both sides of the cargo in crucial parts of the route); the pilot remained in constant radio touch with the driver.

You can watch loading and unloading in a short video.
